Showing One-Fourth

1.G.3
Module 6
Differentiation Activity

Students use the Extra Practice Grids to find as many ways as they can to show one-fourth.  See if they can find some unusual ways to show it.

Sharing Mats

>1.G.3
Module 5
Differentiation Activity

One partner will pick a number between 1-20. The other partner will use cubes to see if the number can be split up into two numbers.  The can also do this with the sharing math split into fours.  Student can record their findings as they go.

Sharing Equally

>1.G.3
Module 5
Differentiation Activity

Students will take turns choosing a number and deciding whether or not that number can be shared equally by four.  This can be done in a small group or partners.

Comparisons

1.NBT.3
Module 5
Differentiation Activity

Student can either roll dice or draw playing cards to create two, two-digit numbers.  They will then use either a white board or even s sticky note to do the comparison.  They can also switch the numbers around to show less than.

Balancing an Imbalance

>1.NBT.3
Module 5
Differentiation Activity

Student draw a card and roll a dice to try and balance the numbers on the Extra Practice sheet. The first student to successfully complete 4 is the winner!

Balancing Word Problems

1.OA.7  1.OA.8
Module 5
Differentiation Activity

Students will use the Extra Practice page to balance the word problem given and then find the solution.  They can do this in pairs or as individuals.

Balancing Equations

1.OA.7  1.OA.8
Module 5
Differentiation Activity

Students, in either partners or groups of 3, can use a real balance or the picture of the balance. One student will place a stack of connecting cubes (1-10) on one side of the balance.  A second student will do the same on the other side.  The third student, or both partners together, figure out what number of cubes is needed to be added to balance the sides.  Students can record their equation and repeat.

Number Track Difference

1.NBT.4  1.OA.3  1.OA.6
Module 7
Differentiation Activity

Students take turns to draw cards from each pile and calculate the difference between their two numbers.  They can use a number track from the Number Case, or they can use the printable one below.

Counting On & Back

1.OA.6
Module 7
Differentiation Activity

Partners draw a card from a deck with only the cards A-10.  They then either count on or back to find the difference.  Students can use number tracks to help if needed. If there are no playing cards available, you can also use numeral cards.

Addition and Subtraction

1.OA.6
Module 10
Differentiation Activity

Students draw two cards and place them each in a box on one of the recording sheets.  They must find the  missing box amount whether it is the total or one of the parts.  They then write the corresponding fact family to match their numbers.  There are two recording sheets that you can print for this activity.

Missing Addend

1.OA.3  1.OA.4
Module 6
Differentiation Activity

Each support page has 4 game boards.  Students can play in a group up to 4 players (2-3 recommended).  Students take turns rolling a dice and placing that number in an equation to make it true.  The student who first completes all the equations is the winner.

Missing Number

1.OA.3  1.OA.4
Module 6
Differentiation Activity

Partner 1 places some counters (or coins) in each hand.  They then turn to their partner, open a hand, and tell them the total of both hands.  Their partner must figure out how many are in the closed hand.  Students can also record the fact families after the unknown amount is shown.

Part-Part-Whole

1.OA.6
Module 10
Differentiation Activity

Two students each draw a card.  The greater number is the total and the smaller number is one of the parts.  Together they build the part-part-whole with connecting cubes and write the matching addition and subtraction sentences.

Parts and Totals

1.OA.6
Module 10
Differentiation Activity

Students draw a card between 1-10.  They find a domino with the matching total.  They then write out either an addition or subtraction sentence that goes along with their domino.
