Make-Ten Mix and Match Games

1.OA.3&6
Module 8
Differentiation Activity

You can either give the students blank cards to write their own make-ten facts or print off the ones in this post to play mix and match games.  The cards will need the students to fill out the answer before they play, or they can leave the answer blank and solve them when they play a mix and match game such as Go Fish or Memory.

Make Ten Strategy

1.OA.6
Module 8
Differentiation Activity

Using two ten-frames (either from the Number Case or the printables), students will make ten and create an equation to match.  First they will write the number sentence 9+__=___.  Then they will fill in one of the ten-frames with 9 counters. They will draw a card and add that number to 9 making sure they fill in the last space on the first ten-frame.  They will fill in the blanks in the number sentence to make it true.

Total Ten - A Fundamentals Game

1.OA.6
Module 8
Differentiation Activity, Fundamentals Game

Students can play the game Total Ten using the Slate Cast feature in Stepping Stones or the printable game (resource below).

To Play:  Students either roll the die or draw a card.  They will place that many counters on their number track. When their turn comes around again, they will roll or draw and place that many more on their number track using a different color counter.  If their number exceeds their track, they lose that turn.  If they still don't make ten, they will go again and use a different color for the third roll.  If they make ten first, they are the winner.
