Count Back by Tens

1.NBT.5
Module 12
Differentiation Activity

Students will draw a number and place their counter on that number.  They will then draw a tens card that will tell them how many tens to count back.  After all the students have had a turn, they compare the numbers and see who has the lowest number.  That student scores a point.  All counters are then removed and the game is repeated.  The first student to score 5 points, wins.

Module 9
Differentiation Activity/Fundamentals Game

Students draw 2 cards (B & C) and add them together.  They then draw the third card (A) and add that onto the total.  They will place a counter on that sum.  When a student has four counters in either one row or one column, they are the winner.  (B cards can be substituted for dice.)

Counting On 1,2,&3

1.NBT.4
Module 9
Differentiation Activity

This game can be played with 2 or 3 players.  Students take turns drawing two 1-9 digit cards.  They form a two-digit number and then draw a smaller card.  They will count on to get a new two-digit number.  Students can check using a hundreds chart.  If the student is correct, they get a point.  This can also be played as a race.  One student draws the cards and the other two race to see who can get the right answer first.  The winner gets a point, and they rotate.  The first to 10 points is the winner.

Students practice counting on 1,2, & 3 by drawing a card, and moving their counter on the game board.  If they end by a slide, they slide down.  If they end by a ladder, they climb it.  The first student to land on 35, the finish, is the winner.  Students may land on the same space as each other.
